Our summer programme is packed with exhibitions for the whole family to enjoy. Get your summer selfie with Santa, next to a stunning Paul Dibble bronze, or beneath a cast of the largest T-Rex ever found! There’s something for everyone to sink their teeth into so we’ve gathered our exhibition highlights below to help you plan your visit to Te Manawa today.

General admission to Te Manawa doesn’t cost a thing but your donations to selected exhibitions are appreciated. We’re open every day during the holidays (except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day).

The annual show where students graduating from the Bachelor of Māori Visual Arts at Toioho ki Āpiti, Massey University, exhibit their finished works. See sculpture, painting and other media from the cutting edge of Māori artistic practice.

16 DEC - 31 MARSix Extinctions

Across hundreds of millions of years, extinction events have wiped out vast numbers of species. This amazing time-travelling exhibition tracks the great disasters that have altered life on Earth, and brings you face to face with the fossilised remains of some of the most iconic creatures in prehistory. See giant armoured fish and ancient mammals next to the skeleton of the largest T. Rex ever unearthed!

11 NOV - 10 MARPaul Dibble: Continuum

An exploration of the creativity and career of one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most iconic sculptors, Paul Dibble. Manawatū has been home to Paul and his family since the late 70’s, with the Dibbles establishing their foundry and sculpture studio. With a career spanning more than 50 years, Paul’s works reside in many private and public collections, both in Aotearoa New Zealand and overseas, including the tribute Southern Stand, the 2006 New Zealand War Memorial in London dedicated to the war dead of NZ in the First and Second World Wars.

14 OCT - 11 FEBHe Ara Whāriki

The graduating students and tutors of the Maunga Kura Toi weaving programme at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa share their raranga works with you. The programme encompasses all aspects of Māori weaving and maintains the practices and techniques of the ancestors.

9 DEC - 6 FEBRita Angus

Rita Angus is one of New Zealand’s most important 20th-century artists. She was fundamental to the establishment of a distinctive, modern school of art in New Zealand. Over a period of 40 years, Angus produced a remarkable body of work. This exhibition brings together a selection of 20 of her oil paintings, including many of her most important works.
