Paraikete Whero

  • Te Manawa Museum 326 Main Street Palmerston North, Manawatū-Whanganui Region, 4410 New Zealand (map)

In the soft embrace of Paraikete Whero, the complexities of our nation’s shared history are interrogated. Wāhine from different backgrounds – tangata tiriti, tangata whenua, from around Aotearoa – look back at nearly 200 years of Māori-Crown relations to consider how key moments in the making of our nation have played out in their own lived experience. Their paraikete are variously stitched with inhereted wisdom, carried through generations, as well as tales of disconnection from Te Ao Māori. All carry messages of hope for the future, an Aotearoa enriched by whakapapa, whenua, and whanaungatanga.
