Brent Harris: Home and Back Again
Peculiar characters, ghostly shadows, and snow-capped mountains inhabit the world of Brent Harris. These works tell the story of a young man in the 1970s who, at just 22, separated from his wife, came out, and left Papaioea – Palmerston North in a brave act of self-discovery.
Feather, Fur & Bone
This exhibition explores the complex relationship in which humans have relied on animals for essentials like food, shelter, and clothing – urging us to consider how we continue to use animal materials in the 21st century.
Witipū
In Witipū, six wāhine Māori associated with Toioho ki Āpiti, explore the mana and diverse roles of Māori women on the Marae and beyond.
Air Playground
For curious kids of all ages, experience the science of aerodynamics and the amazing invisible elemental force of air through 10 interactive exhibits. Developed by a team of Scienceworks experts from Museums Victoria, this exhibition is jam-packed with hands-on interactive experiences for the whole whānau.
SCREECH! A little history of loud ceramics
A far cry from the brown pots of studio pottery we’re familiar with, the artists in Screech take their cues from subjects like raging rockstars, other-worldly paintings and imaginary creatures. Their work moves beyond use and form to explore pop culture, mythology and social dynamics.
Emily Hartley-Skudder: CAMEO
Bringing together pristine, still life paintings of cleaning products, she-wees and baby bottles with surreal constructions, Emily Hartley-Skudder’s latest body of work responds to Palmerston North’s beloved public toilets, Ladies Rest, in Te Marae o Hine, the Square.
Emily Hartley-Skudder is the inaugural recipient of the Fair Trust Art Prize.
Lady Bits
Lady Bits is an exhibition of items from Te Manawa’s collection, uncovering some of the tools women have used to craft themselves into socially-desirable, suitably feminine, ladlylike versions of themselves.
Robin White: Tuituia | Something Is Happening Here
For over 50 years, Dame Robin White’s art has portrayed people and their environments in Aotearoa New Zealand, Kiribati, Fiji, Tonga, and beyond. These places have transformed her life and art. This exhibition explores a selection of artworks spanning her career – from early paintings to recent collaborative tapa (bark cloth). Developed and presented by the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa in partnership with Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki.
