Matatau 2026 brings together the graduating artists of Toioho ki Āpiti, the Bachelor of Māori Visual Arts programme at Massey University. The exhibition explores Mana Tangata through a re-examination of the programme’s three grounding kaupapa: Mana Whakapapa, Mana Tiriti, and Mana Whenua. Considering these interconnected aspects of mana holistically, the artists reflect on identity, belonging, memory, environmental responsibility, and social agency through diverse contemporary art practice.
