A community exhibition that celebrates the handmade, the low-tech approach to textile making, and the creation of beautiful and useful objects.

The Manawatū Spinners and Weavers Guild was founded in 1967 and carries on the practice of fibre crafts, one of the oldest crafts in human history. Traditional fibre techniques worldwide use materials that are easily available. For spinners and weavers here, using European techniques, this was once flax, but is now wool. Most of what you see on display is made with New Zealand wool.

The fibre arts involve preparation of materials, and then repetition of the same actions over and over. Twisting together raw fibres into usable yarn (spinning), stitch after stitch of knitting, crochet or sewing, and the under and over of weaving.
