Climate Change Theatre Action 2019 (CCTA 2019) is a worldwide series of readings and performances of short climate change plays presented to coincide with the United Nations Santiago Climate Conference (COP25). Stories are used to bring communities together and encourage them to take local and global action on climate.
Te Manawa has signed up to participate. We have access to 50 short plays (about 5 minutes each) from around the world (including New Zealand) that address various aspects of climate change. If an individual or group wants to write or workshop ideas for their own 5-minute play, that’s fine too.
The plays will be available for people who come to our first hui on Saturday 28 September from 2-4pm in the Art Gallery, Te Manawa, 326 Main Street.
People attending the hui will have the chance to read and select a play, meet others who want to be in the plays or support them (directing, props, costumes etc) and form groups to take on a chosen play. Groups will also choose what part of Te Manawa they want to perform in (either building). We’ll have snacks and drinks available (free).
The 2nd hui will be on Thursday 17 October from 5.30-7.30pm in the Art Gallery. Thursday 31 October will be dress rehearsal from 5.30-7.30pm, meeting in the Art Gallery.
