Waitangi Day 2013

For the first time Te Manawa had the honour of organising and hosting Waitangi Day, sponsored by the Palmerston North City Council.

The day was a great success with approx 6.500 people coming to commemorate and enjoy a wonderful day at Te Manawa. An extensive entertainment programme, information on the Treaty of Waitangi, hangi, workshops, market and food stalls, back of house tours, kids entertainment and a garage sale created a relaxed and fun atmosphere in our unique premises.

Besides a lot of special moments there were two highlights: the performance of Te Tu Mataora, our local Kapa Haka champions and the world record attempt in Ti Rakau, a Maori stick game.

Many people helped to make Waitangi Day special and we would like to thank all of the performers for contributing their talent and time, and the societies for their support running back of house tours. We would also like to acknowledge the support of the Palmerston North City Council, Destination Manawatu, Mai FM 97.0, the Ministry of Culture and Heritage, Eastern and Central Community Trust, Infinity Foundation Limited and Bidvest Foodservice.
