Te Manawa : Museum Gallery Science Centre

Old Versus New

Why does modern art look so different from "old" art? Why does that artist paint like that? Students will view a selection of works from some of the major art movements and discuss the differences between them. They will discover why these differences occurred and how culture, politics, social and technological development can influence artists. They will also have a hands on experience creating their own artwork in one of these styles. This programme can be tailored to fit with any culture or periods in history that are being studied at school.
