Assume Nothing: Celebrating Gender Diversity

28 February to 7 June

Mark_boy_girl_LR.jpgWhat does it mean to identify yourself as ‘transgender’ or ‘gender fluid’, in a world determined to define you as either male or female? This challenging yet sensitive exhibition invites you to leave your preconceptions at the door and take a walk in the shoes of those who identify as ‘alternatively gendered.’

Stunning portrait photographs by Rebecca Swan and documentary footage by Kirsty McDonald reveal both the extraordinary and often very ordinary worlds of New Zealand’s transgender community. Included are such well-known personalities as former MP Georgina Beyer, the world’s first transgender politician, flamboyant Wellington performer Carmen Rupe, and activist and educator Mani Bruce Mitchell.
Assume Nothing is an exploration and celebration of the complex world of gender diversity.
