Karl Maughan: A Clear Day
10 November to 30 March
Karl Maughan is well known for his large vibrant paintings of garden scenes, and Te Manawa is proud to present this first survey exhibition of Karl’s work. At first glance, his lush paintings appear almost photographic in their realism, yet immerse yourself closer in the garden and immaculate lawns and chaotic out of control gardens alike dissolve into brushstrokes of highly keyed colour.
A feature of the exhibition is the large 6 panel painting A Clear Day, painted while the artist was working in London. A series of paintings named after Karl’s teachers at Freyberg High School also feature.
